Character Drawings

Here is a selection of character drawings for my current university work.

I have been trying to focus how the cinematography and design can work together to tell a characters story. So instead of just doing drawing of figures i wanted to put my character in some form of setting, inside a 16:9 frame, so that it shows a bit about the characters history, and how his place in the story.

For this image, i placed the character Garion in the centre of the frame to show his importance within the story. However i also wanted to show his state of mind.

Through the story Garion feels out of place and confused. His whole life is turned upside down when he is taken on a quest that will determine the fate of all. Little does he know that he is in the centre of all of.

Garion being in the centre of the frame shows his importance in the story, but i have put him sitting down, surrounded by patterned flooring to try and show that he feels out of place and lost.

A Working Photoshop Visual for my Adaptation of David Eddings 'Belgariad'

Photoshop and Concept Art Development

For my final year project at Wimbledon College of Art i am adapting David Eddings 'Belgariad' into a production design project.

Through this project i am trying to develop employable skills such as photoshop, sketch up etc but what is most important to me is developing my skills to tell the story. I am working on how my design of the fantasy world in Eddings's book can enhance and tell the story.

I am using photoshop to develop my visuals and storyboards as it is such a great tool to tell story. What i have posted so far is still a working progress and the design is no where near finished but the more i experiment with the visuals the more i understand how i want this design to look like.

Here is an example of some of the work i did within the art department on Feature Film Four. My job roles included Production Design Assistant, Set Dresser, Prop Buying Assistant, On Set Runner and Scenic Artist

Our Brief for this set was to make this white rom look like an abandoned office. To create the affect that we did we painted all the walls with watered down poster to paint to create the 'damp' affect on the walls. We distressed all the furniture also with poster paint creating rust and grime effects.

Finally we added all the dressing to make the room look as though who ever worked there had literally got up one day and left. We created this effect by dressing the room with old papers, files, cigarette buts and old mugs of tea.

TELEVISION SET PROJECT

'Graham Norton's WHO DUNNIT!'

With this project i had to create and design my own Light Entertainment TV show. Based of my passions for murder mystery novels and Art Deco design i created an idea and design for a murder mystery quiz show, that, hypothetically would be hosted by Graham Norton.
